1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Mimesa collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Mimi mobile app and related services, including catalog browsing, account sign-in, EPUB/PDF import, AI narration, LibriVox playback, library sync, progress sync, daily reminders, streaks, support, and backend services.

2. Information We Collect

We collect account and authentication information, including email address, authentication ID, account creation details, and sign-in provider information from our authentication systems, app platform sign-in providers, or email authentication.

We collect profile and preference information you provide or configure, including display name, birthdate, preferred categories, preferred authors, onboarding selections, reader appearance settings, daily reminder settings, selected AI voice, narration speed, and referral code attribution.

We collect library and playback information, including saved books, book identifiers, source metadata, cover metadata, chapter progress, chunk progress, LibriVox seek progress, last read or listened position, and whether the latest resume point came from AI narration or a LibriVox recording.

We collect daily audio activity for streaks. The current implementation records whether playback started on a given date, source type, and book identifier. It is not designed to store listening duration.

We collect recent searches, reports you submit about formatting, narration, missing content, covers, or other issues, and support messages you send.

If you import documents, we may collect EPUB and PDF files, original file names, MIME type, file size, SHA-256 hash, book identifier, and storage object metadata. Text and chapter content are extracted locally by the app for reader and narration features. Synced uploaded documents are currently limited to 30 MB per account.

For AI narration, we process text chunks, selected voice, narration speed, model identifier, chunk identifier, and limited diagnostic metadata needed to reserve and finalize AI usage. We store AI quota and reservation records, including character counts, period limits, remaining characters, reservation status, and failure information.

We may collect device, analytics, and technical information, including device type, operating system, app version, screen routes, app events, feature usage, diagnostics, and network metadata. Analytics and diagnostics providers may be used when configured.

If you enable reminders, we process notification permission status and your reminder schedule.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • create, authenticate, secure, and manage accounts;
  • provide catalog browsing, reader display, AI narration, LibriVox playback, sleep timer behavior, library sync, and progress sync;
  • upload, store, download, and delete synced user EPUB/PDF files;
  • process text through AI narration providers;
  • enforce preview limits, quota, anti-abuse, and rate-limit controls;
  • remember settings, onboarding choices, reminders, streak state, and reader appearance;
  • analyze usage, performance, and reliability;
  • debug issues and respond to support requests;
  • record referral attribution for marketing measurement;
  • prevent fraud, abuse, and free-credit reset abuse;
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce policies.

4. Uploaded Documents and Generated Audio

EPUB and PDF parsing is performed locally in the app. Text-based PDF import is supported. OCR for scanned or image-only PDFs is not currently supported.

When document sync is enabled, the original EPUB or PDF may be uploaded through Mimesa backend infrastructure to secure cloud or server storage so it can be restored on another device signed into the same account.

AI narration is generated by sending normalized text chunks and generation settings through Mimesa backend infrastructure to Mimesa-operated or third-party narration systems. The backend reserves AI character usage and forwards the narration request as needed to provide the feature.

We do not use private uploaded documents to train AI models unless we separately ask for and receive explicit consent.

5. How We Share Information

We share information with service providers as needed to operate the app:

  • authentication, database, sync, referral attribution, quota, and backend service providers;
  • cloud hosting, server, storage, content delivery, and infrastructure providers;
  • Mimesa-operated or third-party AI narration and text-to-speech infrastructure providers;
  • analytics, diagnostics, performance, and reliability providers when configured;
  • notification, update, app platform, and app store service providers;
  • sign-in, entitlement, payment, and platform providers where those features are used;
  • LibriVox, Standard Ebooks, Gutendex, Project Gutenberg, and similar public catalog sources when fetching public metadata, EPUBs, or recordings;
  • authorities or other parties when required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, security, or prevent abuse.

6. Retention

Account identity, email, entitlement state, referral attribution, and AI credit usage history may be retained while your account exists and as needed to prevent credit abuse or comply with legal obligations.

Saved books, progress, settings, searches, reports, streak records, and synced uploaded documents are kept until you delete app data, delete a book, request deletion, or the data is no longer needed.

Uploaded EPUB/PDF files stored in Mimesa-controlled cloud or server storage are deleted when the related synced document is deleted, when all user documents are cleared, or when app data deletion removes user document records and objects through the backend flow.

Local caches, including generated narration audio chunks, may remain on your device until the related book is removed, local app data is cleared, or the app is uninstalled.

7. Your Choices and Deletion

You can sign out from the app. Ordinary logout clears volatile session state but is designed not to erase your persisted local library for the same account.

The current in-app deletion flow deletes app data, not the full authentication identity. It removes synced library/progress data, settings, streak records, searches, reports, synced user document records and files, and local app data on the device. It keeps account identity, profile email, entitlement state, referral attribution, and AI credit usage history so free credits cannot be reset by deleting app data.

For additional deletion, correction, or access requests, contact armaan@armaaxs.com.

8. Security

We use authentication, access controls, row-level security where applicable, service-role-only backend operations, HTTPS/TLS in transit, and provider storage controls. No system is perfectly secure.

9. International Transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live, including countries where our service providers operate.

10. Children

Mimesa is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. If changes materially affect your privacy rights, or if notice is required by law or platform rules, we will provide notice through the app, website, store listing, email, or another appropriate method. Other changes may take effect when posted.
